People Issues  - The right talent performing
 the right task

A lot of efficiency can be lost, simply by having the wrong person performing an activity. In addition, providing the right tools so employees can do their best is also essential. And we cannot forget about the importance of motivation.

Here are some questions to ask:

  • Are there advantages in having the task the responsibility of another business unit?
  •  Is a different level of expertise required -- in other words, is the person being under or over-utilized?
  • With proper training, could they do better?
  • With better guidance could the team be more successful?
  • Could this task be automated?
Eliminating routine, redundant tasks will allow people to do what they do best -- use their minds. Consider these questions and others to bring out the best in everyone, at all levels.

It may seem difficult to answer some of these questions. Managing people and knowing the best combination of tasks and talent is quite difficult.  Keeping track of who is doing what is pretty straight forward, but we still tend to not do a good job "staying in the loop". What we think is going on in the trenches is usually a far cry from what is actually happening. It is essential to have everyone working in harmony.

COLLECTIVE WISDOM CAN BE AN effective tool for solving the problem of knowledge deficit, or the underutilization of organizational knowledge. If you are a small, medium or large business, and you don’t have a method in place for harnessing and managing your organization’s collective knowledge, you may be losing opportunities for significant revenue enhancement. According to a study by the Delphi Group, less than 20 percent of knowledge available to an enterprise is actually used.  more>>
